Who knew that a trip to South Korea could spark an interest in K-beauty? For beauty enthusiast Carmen from MyBeautyHeroes, her trip to the hub of all things Korean beauty, skincare and makeup was what made her embark on her K-beauty journey! If Carmen had to choose only one Korean beauty product, it would be the cushion foundation! Why, you may ask? It’s a game-changer! Let’s have a look at how to achieve an everyday summer glam look, and keep it on even in the blazing summer heat! This versatile makeup look can also be worn all-year round for a chic and sophisticated everyday look.

As the weather heats up, it’s time to experiment with sizzling summer shades, sparking textures and shake things up a bit in the new year! Base

Ever since I first discovered cushion foundations, I have been hooked! They make it easy to ace that base every time and achieve a flawless finish - FAST! They are also convenient for on-the-go and perfect for touch ups. My choice is the CLIO Kill Cover Cushion Range which features 3 variations to suit different skin types and preferences. They also come with an extra refill. These cushion foundations are light on the skin, comfortable to wear and offers long lasting coverage (to beat the summer heat!) whilst looking incredibly natural. My tip is to always apply in light layers, using a light ‘dab and roll’ motion for seamless blending and controlled application. For higher coverage, you can always build it up without it looking heavy or cakey. For dry skin or to achieve a more dewy look, I like to spritz the cushion applicator with a facial mist before pressing the cushion to pick up product. This also helps with hydration, particularly with any dry patches.

I like to finish off with a light application of INNISFREE No Sebum Mineral Powder to help set makeup and prevent shine. I discovered it years ago on a trip to Korea and it is definitely one of my makeup must-haves - I was thrilled to discover that it’s available at BONIIK. It leaves skin with a smooth, matte finish and is formulated with natural minerals from Jeju Island and mint to help control excess sebum on the skin.

Eyes

A KBeauty trend that I’ve been loving recently is adding a subtle sparkle to my everyday makeup look. Who said that glitter had to be reserved for special occasions only?! My top picks are THE FACE SHOP Metallic Cube Liquid Eye Shadow and 3CE Eye Switch, both of which come in dazzling shades sure to sparkle in the sunlight and make eyes standout. They can be worn as a sheer wash of shimmer across the eyelid or applied delicately as eyeliner for a subtle sparkle when it catches the light to make eyes pop! They are long-lasting, easy to apply and can be worn together with other eye makeup - the possibilities are endless so unleash your creativity! I love to add glitter to give a look a fun and unexpected twist! Finish off by curling lashes and applying THE FACE SHOP Mega Proof Mascara for a dramatic lash look. This mascara is water, sweat and sebum proof which is definitely a winner in my books. Whether like me, you are prone to getting a bit teary eyed when watching a good K-drama or sweating through your workout session, you don’t have to worry about this mascara running or flaking. The well designed brush imparts volume, length and curl to lashes in one single stroke for maximum impact.

Lips

My choice for lips is the 3CE Cloud Lip Tint - for double duty beauty! The shades in the range are seriously stunning and the water drop shaped applicator allows smooth application onto lips. For best results, start applying at the inner part of your lips and work outwards. From bold brights like Peach Tease and Macaron Red to the delicate and sweet Cutesicle and Blossom Day - there is something for everyone. The product is very versatile and can be worn as a gorgeous gradient lip look or applied for a vibrant perfectly polished pout. The product blurs out lips with a unique fluffy cloud like texture and applies smoothly, with a vivid colour payoff. It features a soft matte finish and adheres seamlessly (which also works well worn under masks!)

Cheeks

To achieve a fresh and flirty finish 3CE Multi Pot Palette #GoingSteady is my go to! Not only is the packaging super cute, it has an airy, blendable formula, and gives cheeks the most gorgeous natural healthy flush of colour - like you’ve just been for a run! I love the summery sorbet shades particularly the peachy, rose which blend beautifully into the skin. The multi pot palette also has balm type formula enriched with shea butter to help last through the hot sweltering summer temperatures! For application, I like to apply blusher higher up on the apples of the cheeks as this gives a lifted and radiant youthful look to the face.
